Ivan Rane has spent a lifetime around the painter's process. The son of Bill Rane, the Taos, New Mexico painter, who created a whole new fusion of all his influences.  Ivan took inspiration from Bill's artistic philosophy and technical virtuosity.

I begin every painting with a preconceived vision of what it might become.  Inevitably these ideas tighten up and control the painter's process. I am forced to spray, drip or splatter paint to try and loosen up and shake the process free. This creating and destroying of the canvas serves to age the canvas in amazing and unpredictable ways.  A little bit of each layer stays behind.

LINK TO BILL RANE

In the last two years of Bill Rane's life, Ivan would spend some morning time painting with Bill at his Ledoux Street gallery. People would sometimes wander in and Bill would always share his creative philosophy with  anybody who was interested. His Rane Gallery was located next door to R.C. Gorman's Navajo Gallery. Bill's enthusiasm for life and art was incredible and he was one of R.C's favorite painters.
